Helena was born in 1963 in Sheffield, England as the daughter of Bruce and Sonja Dickinson.

In show jumping she first competed internationally in 1977. 1979 she won the silver medal at the Pony European Championships. In 1983 the individual bronze medal and team gold medal were added to her collection. Followed by a further silver medal with the British team in 1984 in Cervia, Italy. 

In total she rode 6 Senior Nations' Cups for Great Britain and 18 for Germany. 

In 1986 she first competed at the World Cup Final with Just Malone. These results counted for Great Britain. 

Shortly after the birth of her first son in 1987, Helena went on to win her premiere at the German Championships for Ladies. She could repeat this victory in 1988, 1990 and 1995. 

Further victories and placings in Nations' Cups, Grand Prix and World Cup Classes followed. She was victorious in the Grand Prix of Rome, London (Olympia), Frankfurt, Cannes, Wiesbaden, Kiel, Poznan und Gijon. Furthermore she won the World Cup Qualifiers of Berlin und London (Olympia) and was the winner of the Queen’s Cup, Hickstead. 1998 she was 5th rider for the German team at the World Equestrian Games in Rome.
